NRAMA: Hawkeye’s return in New Avengers #26?
JQ: Hawkeye’s dead, I made sure of that. What in god’s name makes you think he’s alive? Heck, if I see him in Avengers I’m going to have Bendis kill him all over again but not before Speedball gets an arrow between the eyes in Frontline.
NRAMA: And then a new roster of New Avengers in issue #27?
JQ: Man, I love when we do the disinformation thing. Sometimes it’s easier to get fans buzzing about the wrong thing than even I can imagine. Many years ago when we were working on the Origin of Wolverine a little rumor broke out about a Spider-Man story being worked on in which Peter discovers hidden memories that he was abused by Uncle Ben. Gee, I wonder how that got started?

Verhetzung.
Lüge.
Dreck."

First off, thanks for your spirited support for Dan Slott. I'm sure he appreciates it.
Here's the thing: I've known Dan for about fifteen years now. He's a good friend of mine. And I clearly think he's talented, or I wouldn't keep giving him all of those assignments in my office.
Here's the other thing, and this is coming from somebody who knows Dan a whole lot better than you do: He's among the most self-destructive people I've ever met.
You pointed to a whole lot of other books (some of which, like NEW AVENGERS, aren't late as you seem to think they are.)--how many of those titles are late because of the writer? You could maybe make a case for YOUNG AVENGERS (which really has as much to do with Jim Cheung's productivity as it does Allan Heinberg's), but even then, the writer in question is juggling a whole other career on the side.
It's an unfortunate truth that I'm going to reveal here, but since Dan became exclusive to Marvel, he's set a new record with the company. Absolutely every issue he's written since becoming exclusive has shipped late. Perfect record down the line, no exceptions.
Writing comics is a career and Marvel is a professional company. And the surest way to not get your exclusive contract renewed is by not having the goods come game time. As I said before, I think Dan's super-talented--but that's not going to help him in the long run if he can't get the work turned around in a reasonable timeframe like a professional.
So absolutely I'm trying to embarass him. I've tried everything else to get him to deliver, to no avail. And I've made no secret to him that I'm going to be doing this. You also fail to point out that, on those occasions when I've called him out on this on panels and whatnot (with the exception of the Wizard Los Angeles show) he's been in attendence, right there up on the podium or in the audience.
